April 2024

 Spring has sprung in Kindergarten!

In ELA we finished up Unit 8: Weather and Seasons. Throughout Unit 8 we focused on the essential question "How do our lives change with the seasons?" Throughout Unit 8 we have been continuing to work on adding, deleting, and substituting beginning, middle, and ending sounds. We also learned the word families -it, -ap, -ick. Our comprehension goals in Unit 8 were: identifying main topic and retelling key details, identifying and describing story characters, setting and major events, describing the relationship between the illustrations and the text, and identifying parts and features of a book (illustrations/captions). In grammar we explored producing and expanding complete sentences and using common verbs. We work each day on our fine motor and writing skills - they are really starting to develop! Sight words we have learned so far are I, like, the, we, go, see, can, she, is, a, has, he, little, play, and, you, big, with, for, no, jump, one, are, have, said, two, look, me, come, and here.

In Math we worked through Chapter 9: Money and Chapter 10: Time! They did such a great job with both! During our money chapter we loved using the coins each day to work on identifying them, adding, subtracting, and doing fair trades! During our chapter on time we learned about time sequencing, days of the week, seasons, our calendar, and time on the hour! We loved seeing their confidence glow when reading the clock in our classroom :) We have now moved into Chapter 11: Measurement!

In Religion we continue to practice the Sign of the Cross the Hail Mary, the Our Father, and our morning/afternoon/meal time prayers! We spent this month learning about how we belong to the Church and our Baptism! It was so much fun to play "Guess the Baby" with all of our Baptism pictures (thank you for sending in!!).

March 2024

What a LUCKY and BLESSED month! πŸ€

In ELA we are finishing up Unit 7: Holidays and Celebrations. Throughout Unit 7 we have been continuing to work on adding, deleting, and substituting sounds, and the word families -in, op, and -ug. Our comprehension goals have been: identifying main topic and retelling key details, describing the connection between two individuals, events, ideas or information in a text, identifying similarities/differences between two texts on the same topic, identifying parts of a book, describing the relationship between illustrations and the text, and identifying the reasons an author gives to support points. In grammar we explored using prepositions and using inflections to find out the meaning of unknown words. We work each day on our fine motor and writing skills! Sight words we have learned so far are I, like, the, we, go, see, can, she, is, a, has, he, little, play, and, you, big, with, for, no, jump, one, are, have, said, and two.

In Math we worked through our chapter on subtraction! We did an amazing job at learning how to take away! Throughout this chapter we enjoyed using many manipulatives and pictures to help us learn hands on! After our Chapter 7 test we began money! We have since then learned penny, nickel, dime, and quarter! We are taking our time with this chapter as we become familiar with each coin and counting on!

In Religion we continue to practice the Sign of the Cross, the Hail Mary, the Our Father, and our morning/afternoon/meal time prayers! We spent this month learning about Lent, The Three Days, and Easter! We enjoyed spending time with Jesus during this Lenten season by attending the Stations of the Cross. We loved reading our Bible story of the empty tomb on Easter Sunday!

This month we learned about our Solar System! Mrs. Ford and I were blown away by how much they knew about space! We also were very lucky to end our solar system unit with a solar eclipse!
