January 2024

So much learning and growth this month!

Our January was filled with snowy days, lots of reading, and love for SKS!! Returning after Christmas break we mastered our routines and procedures that help our days run smoothly! We love calling ourselves a team in this classroom, and we know that takes teamwork! Teamwork to us means being a kind friend to all and being a responsible student :) Every month that passes this school year, Mrs. Ford and I become even more proud of how far they have come! Watching them grow and develop as problem solvers, readers, writers, and followers of Jesus is such a blessing to us.

It seems as though our class has been bit by the reading bug!! We are already seeing great strides in their reading skills and absolutely love seeing their faces light up! Please let us know any thoughts you may have on the books being sent home for your child.

In ELA we are finishing Unit 5: Technology at Home and School. Throughout Unit 5 we have been working on adding, deleting, and substituting sounds, rhyming words, and the word families -at, -un, and -ip. Our comprehension goals have been conclusions, author's purpose, cause and affect, and sequencing. In grammar we explored using the pronouns I and Me in sentences and using common being verbs in sentences! We work each day on our fine motor and writing skills! Sight words we have learned so far I, like, the, we, go, see, can, she, is, a, has, he, little, play, and, you, big, and with.

In Math we finished Chapter 6: Tables, Graphs, and Fractions! It has been so great watching their problem solving and math skills grow as well! We love using our hands on manipulatives to bring our math to life! We will be taking our Chapter 6 test this week as well.

In Religion we continue to practice the Sign of the Cross, the Hail Mary, the Our Father, and our morning/afternoon/meal time prayers! We spent this month learning about how God made each of us special in our own way, and how he gave us the gift of our five senses to discover his wonderful gifts!
