Happy Friday!

Hi Kindergarten Families!!

We had an awesome third week in Kindergarten! It's hard to believe that we are already at the end of September! The students seem very adjusted to our days & routines. We are so proud of the progress we see each week! This week we read Pizza at Sally's, Everyone Works, Fall Leaves, and I See Rain

In ELA this week we talked about jobs and different workers in our communities! We continued reviewing, spelling, and writing our sight words "I" "like" "the" & "and". We identified the beginning sounds in words, and learned about verbs! Our letter of the week was 'Ss'! We met our next letter person Ms. S with Super Socks! The kids loved listening to Ms. S's song and story and talking about words that begin with the letter 's'. We wrote about things we could do in Super Socks in our Letter Journals! The kids also made the Ms. S puppet! In math we took our Chapter 1 Test! The children did so well at listening to directions and working on their own papers! In Religion we finished up our study of God's gift of the Sun & Moon, learned about the gift of water, and watched "Veggie Tales: Noah's Arc"! The students really enjoyed continuing learning the colors and greetings in Spanish. They learned how to take care of books in Library, personal space in Gym, and read Maisy's Rainbow Dream in Art!

This week the entire Kindergarten received a lesson from our school counselor Mrs. Hendrickson about personal space. We spoke about our personal bubbles and giving each other space when playing! The students were then given a personal space booklet & bubbles to take home!

This week we also continued our center rotations! In the Word Work center the students spelled CVC words using letter dice. The Art & Discovery centers worked with Mrs. Lowe creating a fall tree painting with corks & used oil & paint in a bag to paint a fall leaf. Students sorted manipulatives in the Math center, and played on the iPads in the Free center!

Reminders!:

  • Sight word rings: Please keep your child's sight word rings in their take home folder as the new words will be added to be sent home on Tuesday!
  • Please check your email for an update from the office about our field trip. Unfortunately due to the weather the trip will be moved to Wednesday, October 5th. All of the other details remain the same and we are hoping for better weather! :)
  • Please check your students take home folder for their completed Ms. S puppet sent home today. They turned out amazing! We are very proud of their coloring and cutting skills!!
We had an awesome week and hope you all have a wonderful weekend! :)

Second Week in Kindergarten!

 Happy Friday!

Hi Kindergarten Families!

We had an awesome second week in Kindergarten! The children are really getting adjusted to the routine of full school days! They enjoy going over our schedule and love checking off tasks on our to-do list! The first few weeks will be the hardest, but Mrs. Lowe and I are so proud of the continued progress they have made this week. This week we read We Don't Eat Our Classmates; Please, Puppy, Please; and I Like to Munch

We had a fun and busy week in ELA learning about our sight words "I" "like" "the" & "and", identifying the beginning sounds in words, and our letter of the week 'Mm'! We met our first letter person Mr. M with a Munching Mouth! The kids loved listening to Mr. M's song and story and talking about words that begin with the letter 'm'. We wrote about foods we enjoy munching in our Letter Journals! The kids also made the Mr. M puppet! In math we finished our first chapter and became experts in sorting by size, shape, and color. In Religion we listened to the story of Adam and Eve, and spoke about God's gifts of the sun and the moon. The students really enjoyed learning the colors in Spanish along with balloons! They learned how to take care of books in Library, personal space in Gym, and read The King of Kindergarten in Art!

This week we also began our center rotations! The students were placed randomly into 5 groups and were able to work in a center each day. In the Word Work center the students unscrambled letters to spell their name, in the Art center the students created 3D apples with Mrs. Lowe, in the Discovery center they designed their own apple, counted apples in the Math center, and read or did puzzles in the Free center!

We would very much appreciate if you could take some time this weekend to discuss the importance of listening to and following directions, listening when the teacher is talking, keeping our hands to ourselves, and participating. We appreciate your partnership at home!!

Our First Week in Kindergarten!

 Happy Friday!

Hi Kindergarten Families!

We had a very successful first week in Kindergarten : )  The kids are really adapting well to an all day schedule and transitioning from one thing to another with more ease each day. The first few weeks will be the hardest, but Mrs. Lowe and I are so proud of the progress they have made this week. This week we read First Day JittersOur Class Is A Family, and Under the Apple Tree

We had a fun and busy week with ELA learning about our upper case/lower case letters, the sight words I and like , rhyming words and middle/ending sounds. In math we learned how to sort objects by size, shape, and color. We used the words "alike" "the same" and "different" to describe our groups! In Religion we listened to the story of creation, spoke about God's wonderful gifts, and took a nature walk through the grotto identifying gifts from God! The students really enjoyed learning different greetings in Spanish class, drawing in art class, getting to pick out library books, and learning new songs and how to be music conductors in music class!

The students were able to participate today in an activity that involved the whole school. The Summer reading book for our school (grades 1-8 only) was Encanto. We read the book this morning before meeting with our 6th grade buddies! We were able to do a fun craft with them as well!  It was so nice to meet and connect with our buddies!
