December 2023

A wonderful and joyous month in Kindergarten!

Our December was filled with Christmas magic all month long! This month was filled with festive activities and a lot of learning! Mrs. Ford and I are so proud of how far each child has come since September and we love to see how hard they have been working each and everyday. Our room was bursting with Christmas magic with the help of our Elf on the Shelf! As a class, we practiced voting on a ballot and named our elf Snowflake! All month long Snowflake jumped around our room helping us to be kind to one another. Along with Snowflake we decorated our Kindness Tree throughout the month! When a child was "caught being kind" or "quietly following directions" they were able to pick an ornament and help decorate the tree! This month stands as being my favorite each year watching the children enjoy all that December brings 😊

In ELA we are finishing Unit 4: Writers Tell Many Stories! Throughout Unit 4 we have worked on recognizing & producing rhymes, identifying beginning, middle, and ending sounds, and blending onset and rime. Our comprehension goals have been identifying & describing characters, setting, and major events, describing the relationship between the illustrations & the story, and comparing & contrasting the adventures and experiences of characters in stories. In grammar we explored prepositions and end punctuation. We work each day on our writing and fine motor skills! Sight words we have learned so far are I, like, the, we, go, see, can, she, a, is, has, he, little, and play!

In Math we are continuing to work through Chapter 5: Numbers to 31. We spent each day ordering, comparing, identifying and writing our numbers! We plan to take our Chapter 5 test in January!

In Religion we continue to practice the Sign of the Cross, the Hail Mary, the Our Father, and our morning/afternoon/meal time prayers! We spent this month learning about Advent, Mary & Joesph's journey to Bethlehem, and how God Chose Mary! Each week we "lit" our Advent calendar together while learning about each week's message: Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love!
