Our First Week in Kindergarten!

 Happy Friday!

Hi Kindergarten Families!

We had a very successful first week in Kindergarten : )  The kids are really adapting well to an all day schedule and transitioning from one thing to another with more ease each day. The first few weeks will be the hardest, but Mrs. Lowe and I are so proud of the progress they have made this week. This week we read First Day JittersOur Class Is A Family, and Under the Apple Tree

We had a fun and busy week with ELA learning about our upper case/lower case letters, the sight words I and like , rhyming words and middle/ending sounds. In math we learned how to sort objects by size, shape, and color. We used the words "alike" "the same" and "different" to describe our groups! In Religion we listened to the story of creation, spoke about God's wonderful gifts, and took a nature walk through the grotto identifying gifts from God! The students really enjoyed learning different greetings in Spanish class, drawing in art class, getting to pick out library books, and learning new songs and how to be music conductors in music class!

The students were able to participate today in an activity that involved the whole school. The Summer reading book for our school (grades 1-8 only) was Encanto. We read the book this morning before meeting with our 6th grade buddies! We were able to do a fun craft with them as well!  It was so nice to meet and connect with our buddies!

Reminders for Next Week!

Please send in a pair of headphones in a plastic baggy for your child! We will begin work on the iPads next week :) The headphones that go over the head are the most comfortable for them. Thank you!!

Sight word rings!: Keep a look out for the sight word ring book to come home this coming week.  It will have the sight words we are learning each week.  Please go over them with your child on a nightly basis to review. You can keep these at home throughout the week, however please send back in on Friday so that we are able to add the words for the next week!

Stationary Fee: If you have not sent back the stationary fee please do that ASAP.

Pretzel Money/Snack: Please remember to put your child's morning pretzel money in their take home folder and their lunch snack money in their lunchbox.

Monday- DRESS DOWN DAY!  If your child would like to participate in the dress down day, please send in $1.00 which will go to CHOP for pediatric cancer research and the upcoming parkway run/walk.  Whenever we have dress down days, the $1.00 donation is always given to a good cause.  On dress down days, students do not have to wear SKS clothes.  They can choose what they would like to wear, within reason.

Wednesday- Our school mass is at 9:00am that will be presented by the 8th grade! The students will be sitting with their sixth grade buddies:) The youtube link is on the parish website if you would like to watch virtually. You are welcome to join us in person too!

Star of the Week- Mrs. Lowe and I will be splitting Star of the Week next week! I will be in contact with our first student's Star of the Week family soon!

Thursday- Please return library books as Thursday is our Library day. The kids can not take out another book unless they have brought back the one from the week before.  Thanks!

Friday- On Friday we are celebrating our September birthdays!! This month we are celebrating Trinity and Bruce's birthdays!!

Upcoming Info: We are going on a field trip to Sugartown Strawberries pumpkin patch on October 3rd! 🎃🍁🎉 We will send all of the information home next week in the take home folder.  CASH ONLY FOR PAYMENT PLEASE!
