Week of February 6th

 GO BIRDS!

It's a sunny and happy Friday in Kindergarten!

Happy February! After a busy and crazy Catholic Schools Week, we had an awesome time getting back into our routine. This week we learned about what kind of things we see in the sky! Our read alouds this week were How Many Stars In The Sky?, What a Beautiful Sky!, Meet February, Turkey's Valentine Surprise, ABC's of Black History, and The Watermelon Seed/ Goodnight Owl (our star student Tate's favorite books!).

In ELA this week we focused on different things we see in the sky! We talked about different types of clouds, moon phases, planes, birds, etc! We focused on sequence of events during our read alouds. Our letter of the week was 'Oo'! We met our next letter person Mr. O who is Opposite! We completed our Mr. O puppet. In grammar we focused on statements. We began Chapter 6 in math which will focus on tables, graphs, and fractions. This week we learned about tally charts, picture graphs, pictographs, surveys & real graphs! In Religion we learned about how we speak directly to God when we pray and the power of prayer! The students wrote prayer intentions for the month of February and did a prayer circle! In Social Studies we learned about Black History Month, Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King Jr., and Sojourner Truth.

Centers this week were full of love! In the Word Work Center the students blended CVC words in a tic tac toe game. In the math center the students rolled dice, added up the number of dots, and used a pom pom to cover the answer! In the art center the students make a sweet Valentine's craft with Mrs. Lowe! In the discovery center the students watched an informational video on Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King Jr. and their impact on the Civil Rights Movement. Students read a book, played on the iPad, or did a puzzle in the free center!

Fly Eagles Fly!! Our fun week ended with a EAGLES pep rally! Mrs. Lowe helped us create these fun puppets to show our spirit! Hope everyone has a great time at the bash tonight!
