February 2024

 What a LOVE-ly month! πŸ’ž

Our February was filled with love, friendship, making promises to Jesus, and turning 100 days smarter!! We can't believe we've reached 100 days in our classroom. We often look back at pictures from September and wonder how the time has flown. They have grown so much as a class - we are so proud! Now that we have counted up to 100 days in K we are now taking down our numbered fish to countdown to summer ... the countdown to K Graduation is on!

Our 100th Day was such a blast! I have never seen that many Grandmas and Grandpas in a Kindergarten room before! Thank you all for helping the children to participate! We started our day making a "100 Days Smarter" crown and coloring sheet. In math we had a scavenger hunt around the room for the numbers 1-100 and placed them together on a 100s chart! We practiced counting by 1s, 5s, and 10s. In Religion we wrote 100 gifts from God on little presents! We ended our day with a sweet 100 snack!

In ELA we are finishing up Unit 6: Stories Have a Message. Throughout Unit 6 we have been continuing to work on adding, deleting, and substituting sounds, and the word families -et, -ot, and -an. Our comprehension goals have been identifying and describing story characters/setting/major events, describing the relationship between the illustrations and the story, comparing & contrasting the adventures and experiences of characters, and retelling familiar stories including key details. In grammar we explored regular plural nouns and question words. We work each day on our fine motor and writing skills! Sight words we have learned so far are I, like, the, we, go, see, can, she, is, a, has, he, little, play, and, you, big, with, for, no, jump, and one.

In Math we finished Chapter 7: Addition Readiness! Our little mathematicians cruised through this chapter and showed great strides in learning addition. Throughout this chapter we used many manipulatives and pictures to help us learn in various hands on ways. We took our Chapter 7 test last week and all the children did amazing! We have since then begun subtraction.

In Religion we continue to practice the Sign of the Cross, the Hail Mary, the Our Father, and our morning/afternoon/meal time prayers! We spent this month learning about how we learn about God with our families, how we can care for others as Jesus did, and learning about the Lenten season and creating Lenten promises! We have also been attending Stations of the Cross!

This month we learned about the human body! Here is us showing how our lungs work! 🫁

Matching pictures of body parts to their name!

Practicing our rhyming words!
