Week of November 14th - 18th

 Happy Friday K!

A very thankful week here in Kindergarten! We had so much fun watching Carroll's production of The Wizard of Oz! This week we had a great time learning about how we use wheels in the world. Our read alouds this week were Good Morning Digger, What Do Wheels Do All Day?, Fox in Socks, Sick Simon and Pink Is Not A Color (our star student Frankie's favorite book!).

In ELA this week we learned all about how we use wheels in our everyday lives! We spoke about different construction trucks, trains, planes, cars, buses, scooters, and even roller blades! We continued working through our phonics program reviewing the sounds & letters of b, t, f, m, n, i, u, o, c, a & g. We introduced 'd' and the letter 's'. Our letter of the week was 'Ff'! We met our next letter person Ms. F with Funny Feet! We finished the sentence "My Funny Feet can ..." in our letter journals, along with the Ms. F puppet. They loved Ms. F's silly song! We are finishing up our work with position words in Math and plan to take our Chapter 3 Test next week. In Science this week we touched on germs and the importance of washing our hands! We conducted an experiment using pepper in water & a drop of soap to see how it keeps the germs away! In Religion we learned about Ordinary Time and living through Christ! In gym, the students created turkeys out of equipment! In art they read ____ and continued working on their "Keeping Christ in Christmas" projects. They chose new books in Library, practiced for the Christmas Concert in Music, and began counting in Spanish!

Fun in our centers continued! In the word work center I worked 1-on-1 with the students teaching them how to tap & blend CVC words. In the art center Mrs. Lowe helped the students create pumpkin pies and write sentences about what they are thankful for! In the discovery center the students used watercolor to expose invisible germs! In the math center the students practiced counting & fine motor skills by feeding a turkey pom poms! Students read a book, played with Playdoh, or on the iPad in the free center!

Next Week:
  • Monday: $1 Dress Down Day benefiting Alpha Bravo Canine, an organization that trains service animals for veterans.
  • Tuesday: Our class Thanksgiving Celebration! Thank you so much to our homeroom moms and all that signed up to donate to our party!
  • There will be no homework packet sent home next week, however please be reviewing our sight words daily! I will be sending home an information sheet for the students to begin practicing their birthday, age, address, and phone number. This is something that will be assessed for our first report card.

We hope you have a great weekend!

Best,
Miss Ryan & Mrs. Lowe
