Week of February 27th

 Happy March!

Can you believe it?

We have now begun the countdown to summer! This week we learned about what makes the Atlantic Ocean special and celebrated Read Across American Week! Our read alouds this week were One Dog Canoe, Atlantic, The Lorax, Green Eggs and Ham, One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish, and Green Pants & 5000 Awesome Facts About Everything (our star student Andrew's favorite books!).

In ELA this week we focused on the Atlantic Ocean! We talked about animals that live in the ocean, how the sun creates storms and the moon pulls on the tides, and how people have studied and charted our oceans. When reading our main books we focused on author's purpose and what our author wanted us to learn about the Atlantic Ocean. Our letter of the week was 'Ee'! We met our next letter person Ms. E with Exercise Energy! We completed our Mr. E puppet. We have been catching up with our letter person journals writing sentences for 'D', "I perform my Dazzling Dance..", and 'O', " ... is the opposite of ...". In grammar we learned about verbs in the future tense. In Math we took our Chapter 6 Test, which they did wonderful on, and began Chapter 7! Chapter 7 focuses on addition readiness and we learned to add 1, add 2, and add 3. In Religion we wrote down our March prayer intentions, learned about how we should care for others as Jesus did, and attended Stations of the Cross. In Science we learned about the human body, especially our lungs and brains! To support our investigations we read The Magic School Bus: Inside the Human Body, Breathe In and Breathe Out, and How Does Your Brain Work?

We learned a lot in Centers this week! In the Word Work center students read cvc words containing short vowels and matched pictures. Students made Dr. Suess crafts with Mrs. Lowe, where they could choose between The Lorax, Green Eggs and Ham, and One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish. We worked on fine motor skills in the Discovery center using tweezers to sort objects. Students practiced picture addition in the math center. Students then were able to read a book, play on the iPad, or do a puzzle in the free center!
