Week of March 6th

 Happy Friday!

Hope the kids are enjoying their Friday off! This week we learned about nature and things that might happen on a hike! Our read alouds this week were Nicky and the Rainy Day, Sheep Take a Hike, Pete the Cat & the Great Leprechaun Chase, A Bad Case of Tattle Tongue, Lacey Walker Nonstop Talker, and How to Catch a Loveosaurus (our star student Norah's favorite book!).

When reading our main read alouds in ELA this week, we focused on retelling as a comprehension strategy and sequence of events. Our letter of the week was 'Hh'! We met our next letter person Mr. H with Happy Hair! We completed our Mr. H puppet. We continued catching up with our letter person journals writing sentences for 'X', "X marks the spot on..", 'J' "I wear my jingle jacket to ...", and 'E' "My favorite Energize Exercise is ...". We spent a lot of time this week reviewing sight words and reading from our textbook! This week we read "Go For It!". When reading a short story as a class first the students will look at the picture and scan the page for any words they recognize. Next they will try to quietly read the page to themselves, then a student will volunteer to read the page to the class. Finally we will choral read the page as one! It is amazing to see how far their reading has come! In Math we continued through Chapter 7: Addition Readiness, learning how to add 4, vertical addition, using ten frames for addition, and writing a number sentence. We will take our Chapter 7 test on Monday. In Religion we continued talking about how we should care for others the way Jesus did for us.

It was a St. Paddy's Day week in centers! In the Word Work center students played a shamrock memory game, matching uppercase and lowercase letters. In the Math center the students played shamrock tic-tac-toe against their group members. Students made a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow in the art center with Mrs. Lowe, and wrote what kinds of things they would spend gold coins on! In the discovery center students made a rainbow by coloring on a paper towel and using two glasses of water to connect the colors! Students then were able to read a book, play on the iPad, or do a puzzle in the free center!
