Week of March 13th

A Very Lucky Fri-YAY!

What a fun week we had!! This week was full of discovering dinosaurs and celebrating St. Patrick's Day! Our read alouds this week were Duck & Goose, Curious George's Dinosaur Discovery, Bluey and the Magic Asparagus, and A Dinosaur Story.

In ELA this week our main topic was "What do scientists do when they discover something new?" We talked about how scientists discover, question, and study. When reading our books we focused on visualizing and sequence of events. Our letter of the week was 'Kk'! We met our next letter person Ms. K with a Kaboom Kick! We completed our Ms. K puppet and finished the writing prompt "I Kaboom Kick my ..". In grammar we learned about verbs in the present tense and in the past tense. We are so proud of how well the students have been doing with their sight words and decoding skills! The students read "D is for Dad!" and "The Big Dig!" in their reading textbooks! We are finished up Unit 4 and will take the test on Monday! In Math we took our Chapter 7 Test on addition and began Chapter 8 which focuses on subtraction readiness. This week we learned how to take away, and subtract by 1, 2, and 3. In Religion we prayed the Stations of the Cross and learned about Lent. We focused on how Jesus asks us to live as He did and ways we celebrate Lent. Science was a hit this week - we learned all about dinosaurs and even did an excavation. The kids loved chipping away and breaking their dinosaurs out of blocks of ice!

St. Paddy's Day continued in centers this week! In the Word Work center the students worked together to match various onset and rime cards. In the math center the students rolled dice and put gold coins into a pot to create addition sentences. Students made beautiful rainbow watercolor paintings with Mrs. Lowe in the Art center. In the discovery center students matched dinosaur fossils to the correct dinosaur. Students then were able to read a book, play on the iPad, or do a puzzle in the free center!

A big thank you to our Homeroom Moms and those that contributed to helping us celebrate St. Patrick's Day! A leprechaun came and left the students some yummy gold coins :). 💚
