Week of March 20th

 Happy Friday!

This rainy weather has not stopped us from having fun in Kindergarten! This week we focused on how people or things can work together! This week our read alouds were Simon and Molly plus Hester, Zin! Zin! Zin! a Violin!, Once Upon a Star, The Thing About Spring, There Is No Place Like Space, Love One Another: The Last Days of Jesus, and My Zoo: A Book of Feelings

In ELA this week we began by taking our Unit 4 test! The test was a bit long so we split it up between two days. The children did wonderful! It is so amazing to see their listening & reading skills improving each day. We began Unit 5 by focusing on how different people can work together. During our read alouds we focused on predicting, retelling, and details in a story. Our letter of the week was 'Uu'! We met our next letter person Ms. U with an Usual Umbrella! We completed our Ms. U puppet and finished the writing prompt "My Unusual Umbrella covers my ...". In Math we continued working through subtraction. This week we learned to subtract by 4, how to subtract vertically, addition & subtraction patterns, and how to use a ten frame as a subtraction strategy. In Religion we learned about the Three Days, or Holy Triduum, as we work our way up to Easter. In Science this week we traveled to outer space! We learned about the planets and the phases of the moon!

Lots of opportunities for movement in centers this week! In the Word Work center the students put together a puzzle (of a basketball) and wrote complete sentences about the subject. In the math center the students played subtraction bowling, writing the total number of pins minus how many they knocked down and how many were left! We got into the Easter spirit in the Art center! Students made an Easter wreath with Mrs. Lowe! In the discovery center the students walked around the room finding planets, writing the planet's name, and coloring in the planets picture! Students then were able to read a book, play on the iPad, or do a puzzle in the free center!

Next Week:
  • Monday: Star Readers begins!
  • Tuesday: K-1 Dental Hygiene demonstration with Dr. John Horvhos / March Birthday Celebration!

Looking Ahead:
  • Wednesday, April 5th - Tuesday, April 11th: Easter Break - No School

Hope you all have a great weekend!

Best,
Miss Ryan & Mrs. Lowe
